KillerSoil™
KillerSoil™ is built to mirror the light, mineral-dominant substrates found in natural bog and wetland environments, including systems similar to Virginia’s Dismal Swamp. It’s designed for plants and applications that depend on constant airflow at the roots, rapid water movement, and stable, low-density structure.
KillerSoil™ is engineered using our Biome Replication Technology™ (patent pending) — a process that studies how bog and wetland substrates function in nature and rebuilds those physical systems in a stable, reusable growing medium. When pore space, mineral structure, and water movement are balanced from the start, roots remain oxygenated even in saturated conditions.
This blend stays open and free-moving while maintaining consistent structure over time. Peat moss provides a lightweight, fibrous base that holds moisture without collapse. Perlite creates large air channels that allow oxygen exchange. Silica adds mineral stability and weight, helping water move through the profile evenly. Diatomaceous earth refines texture and supports long-term porosity. Together, these materials create a substrate that resists compaction and maintains gas exchange in wet conditions.
KillerSoil™ is well-suited for bog-adapted plants and systems where standing moisture, high humidity, and root-zone oxygen are critical. It performs reliably in containers and controlled environments that require predictable water behavior and structural stability.
Built to behave like real wetland substrate, KillerSoil™ provides a consistent foundation that supports healthy root function in saturated, low-disturbance conditions.
-
Peat Moss
Forms the fibrous foundation of the mix, holding moisture while maintaining structure. Peat mirrors the organic base of natural bogs and wetlands, allowing roots to stay hydrated without collapsing into dense, airless material.Perlite
Creates large air channels throughout the substrate, ensuring oxygen can move through the root zone even under saturated conditions. This supports healthy root function in consistently wet environments.Silica Sand
Adds mineral weight and structural stability, helping water move evenly through the profile instead of pooling. Silica sand reflects the mineral component found in natural wetland and bog substrates, providing firmness without compaction.Diatomaceous Earth
Refines texture and improves long-term porosity. DE helps maintain open structure over time, supporting gas exchange and preventing compaction in high-moisture conditions. -
Bog & Wetland Plants
KillerSoil™ is designed for plants adapted to saturated, low-disturbance environments where roots remain wet but oxygenated. Its structure supports constant moisture while maintaining airflow at the root zone, similar to natural bog systems like Virginia’s Dismal Swamp.Carnivorous Plants
Ideal for species such as Venus flytraps, pitcher plants, sundews, and bladderworts that depend on consistently wet, low-mineral substrates. KillerSoil™ maintains stable moisture and structure without collapsing or compacting over time.High-Moisture Containers & Trays
KillerSoil™ performs well in setups that use tray watering or constant saturation. The blend manages water movement evenly, helping prevent stagnant zones while maintaining oxygen exchange.Bog Gardens & Terrariums
Suitable for indoor and outdoor bog gardens, paludariums, and terrarium environments where predictable water behavior and long-term structural stability are critical. -
KillerSoil™ works because it’s built around how water and air move through natural bog substrates, not around feeding plants or forcing performance.
In environments like wetlands and bogs, roots stay wet but never suffocated. That balance comes from structure — not additives. KillerSoil™ recreates that structure by maintaining large pore spaces, mineral stability, and consistent moisture behavior even under saturation.
• Oxygen in Wet Conditions
Perlite and diatomaceous earth maintain open air pathways, allowing gas exchange at the root zone even when the substrate is fully saturated.• Even Water Movement
Silica sand adds mineral weight and stability, helping water move through the profile evenly instead of pooling or stagnating.• Structural Stability Over Time
Peat moss provides a fibrous base that holds moisture without collapsing, keeping the substrate open and functional with repeated wetting.• Bog-Accurate Behavior
The blend mimics real wetland substrates — spongy, mineral-balanced, and highly aerated — supporting root function in conditions where most soils fail.Because the system is balanced from the start, KillerSoil™ remains predictable and stable without constant adjustment. Water behaves consistently, structure holds, and roots stay healthy in saturated environments.
WORKS PERFECTLY:
Bog Asphodel, Bog Bean, Bog Cranberry, Bog Laurel, Bog Rosemary, Bog Violet, Cephalotus, Cloudberry, Cranberry, Darlingtonia, Dionaea, Drosera, Heliamphora, Labrador Tea, Leatherleaf, Marsh Marigold, Meadow Beauty, Nepenthes, Pitcher Plant, Pinguicula, Sundews, Sphagnum Moss, Swamp Pink, Sweet Gale, Utricularia
Some Adjustment:
Swamp Azalea → Add ½ cup peat moss + 2T sulfur / CF
Alder Buckthorn → Add 1 cup sand / CF
Tamarack → Add 1 cup sand + 1 cup peat / CF
Grass Pink Orchid, White Fringed Orchid → Add 1 cup fine bark / CF
Meadow Beauty, Marsh Cinquefoil → Add ½ cup sand / CF
KillerSoil™ is a ready-to-use bog and wetland substrate made from a balanced blend of peat moss, perlite, silica sand, and diatomaceous earth. It’s mixed in small batches using our Biome Replication Technology™ (patent pending) to ensure consistent structure, airflow, and predictable water movement under saturated conditions.
Each batch is blended to stay open and free-draining while maintaining stability over time. The substrate is screened and mixed to preserve texture without dust or fillers, making it easy to use straight out of the bag in containers, trays, or bog-style plantings.
