KillerSoil™

KillerSoil™ is built to mirror the light, mineral-dominant substrates found in natural bog and wetland environments, including systems similar to Virginia’s Dismal Swamp. It’s designed for plants and applications that depend on constant airflow at the roots, rapid water movement, and stable, low-density structure.

KillerSoil™ is engineered using our Biome Replication Technology™ — a process that studies how bog and wetland substrates function in nature and rebuilds those physical systems in a stable, reusable growing medium. When pore space, mineral structure, and water movement are balanced from the start, roots remain oxygenated even in saturated conditions.

This blend stays open and free-moving while maintaining consistent structure over time. Peat moss provides a lightweight, fibrous base that holds moisture without collapse. Perlite creates large air channels that allow oxygen exchange. Silica adds mineral stability and weight, helping water move through the profile evenly. Diatomaceous earth refines texture and supports long-term porosity. Together, these materials create a substrate that resists compaction and maintains gas exchange in wet conditions.

KillerSoil™ is well-suited for bog-adapted plants and systems where standing moisture, high humidity, and root-zone oxygen are critical. It performs reliably in containers and controlled environments that require predictable water behavior and structural stability.

Built to behave like real wetland substrate, KillerSoil™ provides a consistent foundation that supports healthy root function in saturated, low-disturbance conditions.

Carnivorous plants don’t play by the same rules as other plants. They thrive in low-nutrient, acidic conditions where ordinary soils would burn their roots. That’s why we created KillerSoil™ — a specialized blend of sphagnum peat moss, perlite, silica sand, and diatomaceous earth (DE) to mimic their natural bog habitats.

With no fertilizers, no compost, and no additives, KillerSoil™ keeps your flytraps snapping, sundews dewing, and pitcher plants filling their tubes without the risk of mineral burn.

Why KillerSoil™ Works:

  • Nutrient-Free Formula – Protects sensitive roots from fertilizer burn.

  • High Drainage & Aeration – Sand and perlite prevent root rot in boggy conditions.

  • Acidic Environment – Peat maintains the low pH carnivores require.

  • Moisture Holding – Holds water evenly, perfect for tray watering methods.

  • Clean & Consistent – Each batch is blended to exacting standards for healthy traps.

KillerSoil™ is a ready-to-use bog and wetland substrate made from a balanced blend of peat moss, perlite, silica sand, and diatomaceous earth. It’s mixed in small batches using our Biome Replication Technology™ (patent pending) to ensure consistent structure, airflow, and predictable water movement under saturated conditions.

Each batch is blended to stay open and free-draining while maintaining stability over time. The substrate is screened and mixed to preserve texture without dust or fillers, making it easy to use straight out of the bag in containers, trays, or bog-style plantings.

We study how soil works in the real world. That means collecting live samples from natural environments, testing them in the lab, and paying close attention to how structure, water, nutrients, and biology interact over time.

We combine hands-on fieldwork, extensive lab testing, open-source research, and APSU’s proprietary tools to turn those observations into reliable potting mixes. Each blend is built to stay structurally sound, hold nutrients through exchange rather than leaching, and support living biology long after planting. The result is a reusable soil system that performs consistently in containers, gardens, and habitats—so growers spend less time correcting problems and more time growing.
