Broad Mites

Identification: Extremely small mites that cause distorted, curled new growth.

Symptoms: Stunted growth, discolored leaves.

Control:

  • Sulfur Dust: Apply sulfur dust to affected plants to kill mites.

  • Predatory Mites: Introduce Amblyseius swirskii to target broad and russet mites.

  • Insecticidal Soap: Regular applications can help reduce populations.

  • Companion Plants: Grow garlic or chives to repel mites.

INDOOR SOP

This protocol is designed to:

  • Knock down active broad mite infestations

  • Break lifecycle in canopy and soil

  • Transition to long-term biological control

    • New growth

    • Undersides of leaves

BIOLOGICAL PHASE (DAY 17 → FINISH)

Predator: Amblyseius andersoni

INITIAL RELEASE (DAY 17)

Loose Predators

  • 20,000–25,000 per room

  • Apply:

    • Sprinkle at base of each plant

    • Light distribution across canopy

Sachets

  • 1–2 sachets per cubic foot of canopy

Placement

  • Hang evenly throughout canopy

  • Avoid direct light and heat

ONGOING MAINTENANCE

Scouting (Weekly) (FOREVER)

Check:

  • New growth (top of plant)

  • Undersides of leaves

Look for:

  • Twisting or deformed growth

  • Glossy or wet-looking leaves

  • Stunted tips

Predator Support

  • Do NOT apply sprays that harm mites

  • Maintain RH: 50–65%

Sachet Replacement

  • Replace every 2 weeks

  • Maintain same rate:

    • 1–2 per cubic foot
